How we verify resident-owned businesses
The badge is a promise about who's behind a listing. Here's exactly what we check, what we don't, and what to do when something looks off.
What the resident-owned badge means
It means the person who owns the business lives in Skye Ranch, they told us so, and we checked their address against our street roster before publishing the listing. A business without the badge isn’t suspect — it just serves the neighborhood without the owner living in it.
Every listing goes through the same admin review before it publishes, badge or not. Any business that serves Skye Ranch is welcome to list here free; the badge only certifies the owner’s address, and it is what decides who appears first — never who is allowed in.
The four checks
1. The owner tells us where they live
At signup, a business owner declares a Skye Ranch home address. Nothing is auto-approved on that alone — it's the starting point, not the verdict.
2. We match it against the street roster
We keep a roster of Skye Ranch streets and address ranges. The declared address is normalized and matched against it, which catches typos and addresses that simply aren't in the neighborhood.
3. A person reviews the listing
An admin reads the submission before it goes live — the address match, the business details, and the categories. Only then does the listing publish and, if it qualifies, carry the resident-owned badge.
4. Neighbors keep us honest
Every listing and every review can be reported. Reports go to a moderation queue a human works through, and a badge can be removed as easily as it was granted.
What we don’t check
- We don’t verify licenses, bonding, or insurance. Ask for those directly — a good pro will hand them over without blinking.
- We don’t inspect work, set prices, or take a cut of any job.
- We don’t run background checks. This is a neighbor-built directory, not a screening service.
Reviews get the same treatment
Reviews come from signed-in resident accounts, and a person reads each one before it posts. Owners can reply publicly, and anyone can flag a review that looks fake or unfair.
